Matty Cash must step up to keep Aston Villa role under Unai Emery after Champions League news
Aston Villa have now secured Champions League qualification for next season and Matty Cash must step up in order to keep his place in the squad under Unai Emery.
Thanks to a Jhon Duran double against Liverpool, Villa knew if Tottenham failed to win v Manchester City, a Champions League place was theirs.
After Erling Haaland grabbed a brace, celebrations began at the end-of-season awards at Villa Park on Tuesday (14 May).
Ahead of next season, there are going to be some changes over the summer as Emery may look to move players on in favour of new signings.
Unai Emery to make Matty Cash Aston Villa future decision
There have been some shouts from within the Villa fan base that maybe the Polish international doesn’t suit an Emery system.
Cash has made 29 Premier League appearances so far this campaign and has contributed to four goals from right back mainly [FotMob].
He has some positive signs, especially going forward with 1.28 shots and 0.16 non-penalty xG per 90 over the last year [Fbref].
Cash could probably improve with the ball at his feet and bringing it forward. With just 2.44 progressive carries and a 37.5 per cent dribble success this season, he can certainly get better.
Defensively he has been dribbled past 30 times while winning just 57.4 per cent of his tackles which Emery would certainly expect better from.

The Spaniard typically opts for one of his full backs to be an attacking force with the other being defensively sound.
With Cash struggling at times with the ball at his feet and being bypassed by attackers regularly, where does he fit in?
With Champions League at Villa Park next season, he will certainly need to step up to avoid being sold in the summer transfer window.
In other Aston Villa news, Unai Emery could activate Michael Olise release clause at Crystal Palace in shock summer transfer.
