Aston Villa gem Aidan Borland dazzles again, Unai Emery cannot ignore him

Aidan Borland will be a well-known name at Villa Park after a successful season with Aston Villa Under-21s and must be considered by Unai Emery for his senior debut.

The 17-year-old midfielder was in action on Wednesday 15 May as Josep Gombau’s side broke the record for the largest winning margin in a Birmingham Senior Cup final, beating Racing Club Warwick 9-0.

Borland was on hand to help give the Villans a comfortable 3-0 lead going into the half-time break, adding to the goals scored by Omari Kellyman and Kadan Young.

Young scored moments into the second half, grabbing his brace, before Kobei Moore, Kyrie Pierre and Rico Richards netted, with Moore scoring a late penalty to round off the victory.

Despite the number of goals against Racing Club Warwick, central midfielder Borland was named Man of the Match, proving just how vital he has been for the young stars this season and, also, why Emery can no longer ignore him.

If his performance in the Birmingham Senior Cup final was not enough, the transfer drama surrounding Villa Park ahead of the summer transfer window might change the Spaniard’s mind.

Unai Emery must trust Aidan Borland with Aston Villa debut

Despite qualifying for the Champions League this season, thanks to a fourth-place finish in the Premier League, Villa are at serious risk of Profit and Sustainability breaches, according to The Sun.

Having recorded a loss of £119.6million, bypassing PSR’s limit of £105m worth of losses over a three-year period, transfer additions seem unlikely this summer. They will not be able to access any prize money from Champions League qualification until later next season, either.

Of course, with European competition in the next campaign, Emery will be keen to strengthen the depth of his squad, one that has been extremely stretched due to injuries to Boubacar Kamara, Tyrone Mings, Emiliano Buendia and Jacob Ramsey.

With this in mind, Borland has been given an incredible opportunity to break into the first team and be awarded his first senior start at Villa Park.

Following his display on Wednesday, it should be the very least he deserves. And with a sprinkle of goal contributions this season for the Under 18s and U21s, he could be a very welcomed addition next season.
