Aston Villa in line to make more profit on Cameron Archer with summer transfer decision
Aston Villa could make a quick profit on Cameron Archer by re-signing the forward and selling him on in the summer transfer window, according to Don Goodman.
The Sun journalist Alan Nixon recently reported that Archer is set to return to Villa Park this summer as part of a buy-back agreement now that the Blades’ relegation has been confirmed.
The 22-year-old is reported to have cost Sheffield United £18million [BBC Sport], but Goodman believes bringing him back to the club and selling to another team would be smart business.
Asked if Archer has any sort of future at Villa Park if he does return this summer, Goodman told Villa News: “I think it’s purely business. It’s an opportunity to get a player back for a price that you could probably get more money for.
“Cameron hasn’t been a regular in the Sheffield United team this year, so to think he could feature for Aston Villa at the top end of the Premier League is a little bit too much.
“I’ve seen with my own eyes how good he can be, but he needs the right environment and a relegation scrap in the Premier League was never going to be the right environment.”
Does Cameron Archer have a future at Aston Villa?
Archer has showed what he is capable of in glimpses this season, but four goals and one assist in 28 Premier League appearances – 20 of those starts – is hardly enough to warrant a place in the Villa squad.
Many were disappointed to see the forward depart last summer, yet on the basis of both Archer’s and Villa’s campaigns to date, it was a decision that was justified.

Exactly how much Villa would have to pay to bring Archer back remains to be seen. What does seem pretty certain is that Villa will surely not be able to land much more than £18m.
Given the work Unai Emery has done with the squad, though, including January purchase Morgan Rogers, anything is possible with regards to Archer and a future at Villa Park.
