Aston Villa could be ready to sell Diego Carlos as transfer news emerges from Italy
Ty Bracey has suggested that Aston Villa should let Diego Carlos go in the summer transfer window if an appropriate bid comes in for him.
A report from TEAMtalk (2 May) said that AC Milan are looking at the Brazilian with him being named as one of their “top targets”.
He has a contract at Villa Park until 2026 so it would be down to Unai Emery and Monchi whether he would be let go this summer.
Bracey believes that if a positive bid comes in, signing a younger replacement may prove beneficial moving into next season.
Speaking exclusively to Villa News, Bracey said: “It’s all down to the recruitment team. If they can get good money for him and there’s a club that comes knocking then absolutely.
“I don’t think there are many in the squad that are indispensable. Diego Carlos isn’t one of them for me.
“If he was to go, we’d have to get another in so we aren’t left short. We’re guaranteed European football next year, we’re going to have a congested fixture list.
“We need players who aren’t injury-prone. They need to be young with good legs and if the money is right for Carlos to leave in the summer I wouldn’t be against selling.”
Should Aston Villa sell Diego Carlos?
The Villans signed Carlos in the summer of 2022 in a deal worth £26m [BBC] which is arguably an overpayment in retrospect.
The centre-back did pick up a near season-ending injury in just his second Premier League game last season. This has hampered his spell with the club.
According to FotMob, this season he has made just 18 starts in the Premier League with Ezri Konsa and Pau Torres often favoured.

Other than in games against Arsenal and Manchester City, Carlos has failed to truly make an impression to maintain a starting role.
He has maintained an 88.6 per cent pass accuracy over the course of the season while making over 1000 passes which Emery will like.
If a bid comes in for him which comes close to that £26m, it would be hard for the Villans to turndown.
They will be after a younger replacement, potentially with Champions League experience, who can improve their squad.
