Aston Villa ace Moussa Diaby must be axed after Olympiacos display

Aston Villa attacker Moussa Diaby has been underwhelming against Olympiacos in the UEFA Europa Conference League clash on 9 May.

The Villans were down by a two-goal lead at the start of the game and needed to win by three clear goals to beat the Greek side.

However, it is not a good look as Unai Emery’s side are down by two goals.

Diaby has let Aston Villa down

The Frenchman has completed 0 per cent of his crosses, according to Sofascore, struggling in the final third.

He’s also lost 75 per cent of his ground duels and struggled off the ball for the Villa side.

Diaby has also completed just nine passes and has failed to make things happen for the visitors.

He also lost possession on eight occasions and has failed to register shots on target or even off target.

Throughout the season, Diaby has been awry with his passes as only 11 per cent of attacking midfielders or wingers have registered worse numbers than him, per Fbref.

Off the ball too, he’s struggled with his 0.48 tackles per game being in the bottom 2 per cent – which is not something that would impress Emery.

Unai Emery must make changes to the Aston Villa squad

At halftime, with Villa trailing Olympiakos by two goals, Emery faces a crucial moment to rejuvenate his players and potentially turn the game around.

Drawing from his tactical acumen and previous halftime adjustments, the Spaniard must focus on rejuvenating his side.

Emery should consider modifying his team’s approach to break down Olympiakos’s defence.

This could involve changing the formation or adjusting the roles of specific players.

For instance, he might opt for a more direct approach, utilising the pace and skill of his wingers to stretch the opposition and create space for the central attackers.
