John McGinn must step up for Aston Villa v Olympiacos after worrying stat
After a poor run of form, John McGinn must perform well for Aston Villa against Olympiacos to help captain his side to a historic comeback in the Conference League semi-final.
Unai Emery was left frustrated at Villa Park as his side fell to a 4-2 defeat in the first leg of the semi-final against the Greek side.
There were plenty of poor performances throughout the Villa side such as Douglas Luiz who conceded a penalty and then missed one of his own.
His midfield partner, McGinn was also poor but must step up in the second leg and help guide his side to win in Athens to overturn a two-goal deficit.
How can John McGinn help Aston Villa v Olympiacos?
Against Brighton, the Villa skipper was off the pace. His passing was the only positive aspect of his performance with an 88 per cent accuracy [FotMob].
Going forward he was poor as in uncharacteristic fashion he failed to complete a dribble or a cross while having just a 40 per cent success rate with long passes.
He was similarly frustrating defensively as McGinn won just one tackle and was dribbled past twice. He also lost six ground duels and failed to win a single aerial duel throughout.
With all this being said, he needs to do better against Olympiacos to help his side overturn a two-goal deficit away from home.
This season he has been superb throughout and according to FotMob he has scored six and assisted four across 33 Premier League games.

He has had a positive impact throughout the year across a variety of positions across the midfield and as a second striker.
If Emery’s side are to progress to the Conference League final, the skipper is going to have to be on top of his game once again.
