Aston Villa insider shares Emiliano Martinez admission amid recent injury update
Bryan King believes Emiliano Martinez has proven he is one of the Premier League’s best goalkeepers this season.
The ex-Villa scout has been blown away by the 31-year-old’s performances during the current campaign.
The Argentina number one is currently sidelined with an injury he picked up in the 2-2 draw with Chelsea at Villa Park on Saturday 27 April (via Birmingham Live, 1 May).
And King – speaking exclusively to Villa News – believes Robin Olsen will struggle to match Martinez’s performance levels while he fills in for the club’s number one.
“Martinez is a very important player for Villa,” King said.
“Olsen is no slouch, but he is not on the same level as Martinez.
“What he is lacking is the showmanship that Martinez has, and for me, Martinez has proven that he is one of the Premier League’s best goalkeepers, if not the best.
“He has impressed me a lot this season.”

If Villa do reach the UEFA Champions League, Martinez will feel that he is one of the players who most deserves to be playing in Europe’s elite competition.
He has been key for Villa over the past couple of years, as well as Argentina, having helped his nation lift the World Cup in Qatar.
Martinez is a crucial player for Emery, and keeping hold of the shot-stopper will be key to Villa’s success over the coming years.
