Alisha Lehmann sends three-word message to Douglas Luiz after Aston Villa defeat v Olympiacos

Alisha Lehmann has sent a message of support to Douglas Luiz after Aston Villa lost 4-2 to Olympiacos in the first leg of their UEFA Europa Conference League semi-final on Thursday (2 May).

It was a disastrous night for Emery’s side at Villa Park, with the Villans now needing to overturn a two-goal deficit in Greece next Thursday (9 May) if they are to reach the Conference League final.

After the visitors had raced into a two-goal lead, Ollie Watkins found the back of the net in first-half stoppage-time, before Moussa Diaby equalised seven minutes after the restart.

But Olympiacos wouldn’t lie down, and by the 67th minute, the Greek side had regained their two-goal cushion.

With six minutes of normal time to play, Villa were handed a golden opportunity to pull a goal back from the penalty spot, but Luiz couldn’t convert, the Brazillian instead striking off the post.

Following the miss, Luiz’s partner and Aston Villa Women star Lehmann took to her personal Instagram (3 May) and posted a picture of the pair to her story, accompanied by the caption “I love you”.

Douglas Luiz must bounce back from missed penalty for Aston Villa against Olympiacos

It hasn’t been the greatest of weeks for Luiz, with the midfielder having also struggled in the 2-2 draw against Chelsea (27 April).

He will need the support of his partner and teammates now more than ever as he looks to bounce back and get his head right ahead of an important couple of weeks.

Lehmann has had struggles of her own this season, scoring just once in 13 Barclays Women’s Super League appearances, with Villa sitting seventh in the division.
