Sil Swinkels sends message to Unai Emery after what he did in Aston Villa U21s v Newcastle

Sil Swinkels could soon find himself among the Aston Villa first-team squad after he scored the winner for the Under 21s v Newcastle United.

The Young Lions secured their place in the Premier League 2 playoffs as the centre-back netted the all-important goal.

Villa looked like the better side throughout the game as they created more chances than the Magpies.

After already securing a place in the Birmingham Senior Cup final, they now await a knockout clash against Tottenham Hotspur in PL2.

Could Sil Swinkels make an impact on Aston Villa first team?

Swinkels joined the Villa academy in the summer of 2020 having previously played for Brabant FC and Vitesse Arnheim.

He made his debut for the club in January 2021, coming on as a substitute in an FA Cup third-round tie against Liverpool.

This was a tie affected by Covid-19 which saw the youth side take the field at Villa Park against Jurgen Klopp’s first team.

He suffered a knee ligament injury earlier this season which saw him ruled out for many months.

Swinkels returned to the scoresheet against Newcastle in a moment which said “I am here” to the Villa coaching hierarchy.

The Dutchman is happy playing in either centre-back role and even as a left-back in a back four which makes him a useful asset.

With the rise of defensive full-backs, like Nathan Ake at Manchester City, he could become an option for Unai Emery.

Although he may not enter the first team picture this season, if he can have a positive pre-season and other out-of-favour options like Calum Chambers and Kortney Hause leave, he could find a role next campaign.

In other Aston Villa news, Wilfred Ndidi free transfer is already on the cards at Aston Villa ahead of the summer window.
