Aston Villa may be forced into Jacob Ramsey sale as PSR rules slammed, Newcastle United in pursuit
Dan Bardell has slammed the Premier League and their Profit and Sustainability Rules which have forced Aston Villa into selling academy talents.
Cameron Archer and Jaden Philogene were sold last summer to Sheffield United and Hull City respectively to ease FFP concerns at Villa Park.
These departures frustrated Villa fans who wanted them to play a part in the Premier League for the season.
Fabrizio Romano reported in January that Newcastle United, Tottenham Hotspur and Bayern Munich have shown an interest in Jacob Ramsey.
Bardell has now spoken out about PSR rules and how having to sell homegrown players isn’t what he wants to see.
Speaking exclusively to Villa News, Bardell said: “The dream for all football fans is seeing that local lad playing for your team because you can resonate with them. Villa have had that in the past with Ian Taylor, Jack Grealish, Gabby Agbonlahor where the fans can resonate.
“That’s what annoys me about these PSR rules as you’re almost rewarded for selling players that have come through your academy and that’s not what football should be about.
“Fans don’t want to see players develop and have to be sold because of stupid rules that don’t really make sense and haven’t levelled the playing field any more and I think it’s made football worse.
“The January transfer window was pathetic. I’m really not a fan of these rules, there’s something not right about having to sell academy players to meet rules that doesn’t sit well with me at all.”
Aston Villa could let Jacob Ramsey go
It has been a common trend over recent years for clubs to sell their homegrown talent to boost their transfer budget.
Chelsea have been one side to do this to the extreme, selling stars like Mason Mount and Ruben Loftus-Cheek over the summer wasn’t entirely popular.
This was a similar story at Villa Park with Archer and Philogene departing despite both featuring heavily in pre-season.
Although the striker hasn’t had the easiest season at Sheffield United, the winger has been unplayable at times for Hull City.

He has 12 goals and six assists in the Championship [FotMob] with plenty of those catching the eye for being spectacular.
Ramsey has had a tough campaign due to injury which has seen him start just eight times and be involved in two goals [FotMob].
This hasn’t stopped links away from Villa Park being rife and some fans believe this could be smart to ease any FFP concerns.
Should this be the case, signing players of elite quality ready for the Champions League may be ideal.
As Bardell said, Villa fans want to see homegrown players make it and selling Ramsey would end this dream for him and them.
