Aston Villa may change transfer strategy as Crysencio Summerville news emerges

Dan Bardell says it will be “interesting” to see if Aston Villa make a move for Leeds United star Crycensio Summerville in the summer transfer window.

Fabrizio Romano reported before the January window that the Villans were scouting the Dutch winger, who was recently named Championship Player of the Year.

After Leeds’ 4-0 defeat to QPR, automatic promotion may be unlikely and that could spark a move to the Premier League.

Bardell believes that Summerville will be a desirable player but questions whether Villa will look at him should they qualify for the Champions League.

Speaking exclusively to Villa News, Bardell said: “It feels like a link that could happen but could be difficult to pull off. If Leeds don’t go up then he’ll be a player in demand as the best players in the Championship typically are.

“There’s great value to be had in the Championship. So many Premier League players come from having a great run and being blooded there. A season down there would have done him no harm rather than being in a struggling Premier League side.

“It’s interesting to see what market Villa will be in, whether they stay in the same market should they qualify for the Champions League.

“They’ve just taken Morgan Rogers from the Championship and are looking to develop him, it’s whether they want more players of that ilk or want to pull in more established players with European experience.”

Should Aston Villa sign Cysencio Summerville?

The Dutchman won the Championship Player of the Year award so there is no doubt that he will be in demand this summer.

In his third season at Elland Road, the attacker has shown exactly what he is all about with some excellent performances.

He has registered 19 goals and nine assists in the Championship [FotMob] which puts him third in the whole division for goal involvements.

He could suit the Villans as a wide midfielder or as a second striker as he likes to cut inside and take his time to make incisive passes or get a shot off.

With Jacob Ramsey and Emi Buendia coming back from injury for next season it is unclear whether Villa need a player of his quality to add.

He could prove to be an exciting signing but could pave the way for others to depart Villa Park.
