Aston Villa have PSR problems as new Jacob Ramsey transfer verdict emerges

Dan Bardell doesn’t think selling Jacob Ramsey this summer would be a “smart move” by Aston Villa despite potential PSR concerns and Newcastle interest.

Despite limited outings this season, the 22-year-old was linked to Newcastle United in January with Villa valuing Ramsey at £50m [Daily Mail].

This fee for a homegrown player would help with FFP and PSR and many Villa fans believe selling him might be in the best interests of the club.

Bardell believes that selling him in the summer window would be unwise, with that fee likely to plummet given his injury issues.

Speaking exclusively to Villa News, Bardell said: “PSR has been a problem. He was heavily linked with Newcastle in January, I think in January Villa might have entertained it.

“I love Jacob Ramsey and would loathe to see him go. If it came to a point where somebody had to be sold, the list of players that are of a high value maybe some Villa fans say it should be him.

“My worry when selling Jacob Ramsey is that if you sell him now it doesn’t make sense as the fee has dropped from what you would have gotten 12 months ago because he hasn’t played.

“Last season you would have got more for him because he was coming off the back of an excellent season where he progressed his game considerably under Emery. If you want to be doing smart sales then Ramsey wouldn’t be a smart sale for me.

“They simply aren’t going to get the money that he’s worth because they’re aware that he’s had serious struggles with injury this season so I think you’d be looking at getting dramatically less.”

Should Aston Villa sell Jacob Ramsey?

Last season, following the incoming of Emery, the Englishman became one of the most important players at Villa Park.

He had a massive impact as the Villans qualified for Europan football for the first time in over 13 years under the Spaniard.

In his past two seasons, according to FotMob, he had scored six goals in each but has failed to hit those heights this season.

Now he is ruled out for the season, he will finish the campaign with just eight Premier League starts and eight sub appearances across just 850 minutes.

With Eddie Howe and Newcastle interested, there is a chance that he could be sold. This can’t be allowed to happen easily.

Villa need to be heavily compensated with £50m or more to make it worthwhile, or they get to keep hold of their star boy.
