Moussa Diaby storms down Aston Villa tunnel after terrible showing

Aston Villa forward Moussa Diaby stormed down the tunnel after he was substituted for a poor performance against Chelsea.

The Villans were dominated by the Blues and were certainly lucky to come away with a point despite being 2-0 up at halftime.

A Marc Cucerella own goal was added to by a terrific strike by Morgan Rogers who has now scored in back-to-back Premier League games.

Noni Madueke and Conor Gallagher brought the game level before Axel Disasi’s header was ruled out by VAR.

The away side probably deserved all three points as Unai Emery’s side failed to turn up in the second half. This was summed up as a first-half substitute was taken off late on.

Moussa Diaby poor for Aston Villa against Chelsea

It was far from a classic Emery performance as the away side dominated on all fronts from possession to chances.

According to FotMob, Mauricio Pochettino’s side had 71 per cent of the ball and translated that into 21 shots and 1.57 xG.

The Villans managed just nine shots by comparison, just highlighting the disparity between the two sides on the night.

One moment which caught the Villa fans off guard was Diaby storming down the tunnel after he was taken off.

The Frenchman replaced the injured Youri Tielemans midway through the first half but was taken off himself after just 64 minutes on the pitch.

It was little wonder as to why he was hooked by Emery after a virtually anonymous performance where he did little of note.

According to FotMob, he had just 40 per cent pass accuracy while registering zero per cent across long balls, tackles and duels.

He did nothing going forward as he had just 12 touches despite coming on and playing as a second striker alongside Ollie Watkins.

Chelsea did well to nullify the Villa attack but that doesn’t excuse Diaby from being extremely poor for a £51.9m summer signing [BBC].

A day to forget for Villa’s record signing who hasn’t got time to sulk as Olympiakos prepare to face Villa on Thursday (2 May).
