Ty Bracey: Aston Villa ‘don’t need’ £70m rated Pedro Goncalves in summer transfer window
Pedro Goncalves has been linked to Aston Villa but Ty Bracey doesn’t believe Unai Emery should sign him due to Ollie Watkins’ form.
The Englishman has had a standout campaign in a superb season for the Villans. This has seen him become the first player to reach 10 goals and assists in the Premier League this season.
Despite this, a report by Portuguese newspaper A Bola on 16 March suggested that Monchi wants to bring Goncalves to Villa Park, this summer.
Bracey has suggested with the form that Watkins has shown this season, signing another forward for a club-record fee wouldn’t be wise.
Speaking exclusively to Villa News, Bracey said: “He’s going to cost a substantial amount of money. You’re probably looking at £70m plus for him.
“We’ve already got the guy with the top goal contributions in the league so I don’t think we need a player of that level because we already have one.”
Should Aston Villa sign Pedro Goncalves?
This isn’t the first time that the Villans have been linked to signing Goncalves with ABola, via Sports Witness, reporting the news in November 2023.
A move never materialised as the two-time Portuguese international stayed with Sporting Lisbon, where he has been for four years.
In his time with the Liga Portugal outfit, he has made 173 appearances which has seen him clock up 76 goals.
He has had a successful season which has sparked interest again. According to FotMob, he has scored 11 goals and assisted 12 in just 28 appearances.

Goncalves is a versatile forward who could suit the system under Emery very well. He is comfortable as a winger, striker or as a number 10. In the 4-4-2 that the Spaniard operates in, he could slot into many roles.
The Portuguese has a knack of creating chances for his teammates. This season he has done so 55 times across 728 passes and an 80.4 per cent success rate.
Given that he could potentially cost around £80m, he certainly poses a risk as a signing. Goncalves has undoubted quality but there is a question whether he is needed, especially at that price.
