Unai Emery must drop Matty Cash if Aston Villa want to win v Chelsea
Matty Cash stood out for all the wrong reasons for Aston Villa against Bournemouth as he gave away a penalty which could see him dropped against Chelsea.
After a lengthy spell out with injury, the Polish international returned to the starting XI against Lille in the Conference League.
He repaid the confidence that Unai Emery had in him as he scored to bring the tie level and send the game to penalties. After some Emi Martinez heroics, the win was eventually secured.
This saw Cash maintain his place in the side as the Cherries travelled to Villa Park but his performance wasn’t up to scratch.
Matty Cash to be dropped for Aston Villa v Chelsea
With the right back picking up an injury on international duty, Ezri Konsa has continued to play out of position and fill in that role.
The Englishman returned to his natural spot in the team as Cash was recalled to the first team. Now this decision should be reversed against Chelsea.
There were some positive facets to his game against Bournemouth such as his 85 per cent pass completion and his six recoveries [FotMob].
This is where the positivity ends as the rest of his performance was shambolic, defensively in particular. He was dribbled past twice, lost eight duels and had just a 20 per cent win rate throughout the game.
Despite being a full-back who likes to get forward where he can, he failed to complete a dribble or have a shot on target.
Against Chelsea, Konsa could come back in as the Villans look to keep the likes of Mykhaylo Mudryk, Noni Madueke and potentially Cole Palmer quiet.

His performance against Bournemouth, according to FotMob, consisted of three tackles, three blocks and seven recoveries. He wasn’t dribbled past once.
Konsa could move back to right back instead of Cash to provide some additional defensive stability.
