Wolves fans would absolutely lose their minds over Max Kilman move to Aston Villa as update emerges
Dan Bardell doesn’t see Aston Villa compelting a move for Wolves captain Max Kilman – even if the Black Country club decides to sell the defender for financial reasons.
After a famous win over Arsenal on Sunday (14 April) Champions League football may be on the horizon for Unai Emery and his men.
This has seen them linked to various players as they look to build a squad ready to face the elite sides next season. Targeting players from fellow Premier League sides, especially those who want to sell players, could be a useful tactic.
Many clubs this season have been impacted by FFP with Everton and Nottingham Forest being hit with points deductions. Despite not yet being punished, The Athletic reported on 1 March that Wolves’ losses are growing.
According to HITC on 6 April, Villa are in the hunt to sign Kilman and Bardell has offered his opinion on the potential move.
Speaking exclusively to Villa News, Bardell said: “Wolves, for the Financial Fair Play problems that they have, if they sold their captain to Villa, Wolves fans would absolutely lose their minds and I don’t see that position being a priority at the moment. When Tyrone Mings is back, they’re going to be well-stocked at centre-back back so I don’t see that one happening.
“Kilman is an interesting player. If Wolves need to shift players he would be a player that would go for high value but I don’t really see him being at Villa, that’s not a move that I envisage happening.“
Should Aston Villa sign Max Kilman?
As mentioned by Bardell, Villa will have plenty of central defensive options once Mings returns from his lengthy injury layoff. This will see Pau Torres, Diego Carlos, Ezri Konsa and potentially Clement Lenglet be available to Emery.

With that being said, a potentially large fee spent on Kilman may not be the wisest move as Villa prepare for the Champions League. According to The Times (3 April), a £30 million bid was rejected by Wolves from Napoli.
This would point towards a bid of closer to £50 million being necessary to sign him in the upcoming transfer window.
In the Premier League this season, Wolves have kept just five clean sheets and the Englishman has played in 32 of their games [FotMob]. He has contributed to two goals in that time.
According to Fbref, he registers 1.56 blocks, 4.64 clearances and wins 2.46 aerial duels per 90 which are top quality. They will be inflated by the fact that Wolves face more attacks compared to other sides but he has still performed well.
He would certainly be a useful player for Villa to sign but with the fee involved, the transfer budget could possibly be better spent elsewhere.
