Douglas Luiz has been one of the standout stars at Villa Park this season and Aston Villa are preparing to offer a bumper new contract as a result, according to HITC.

The sports news outlet reported on 12 April that, amid interest from Arsenal, Villa are keen to tie the Brazilian down and make him one of the highest-paid players at the club.

This news emerged shortly after the 2-1 Europa Conference League victory with Luiz playing a key role as Villa moved one step closer to European silverware this season.

In the Europa League clash with Lille at Villa Park, Luiz imposed himself on the midfield despite a tricky clash and proved once again why he is so key to Unai Emery's team.

With 28 accurate passes from 30 attempts, the Brazilian recorded a 93 per cent passing accuracy, including two key passes, two crosses and a 100 per cent success rate with long passes, completing all six that he attempted. [Sofascore]

On top of his brilliance in possession, Luiz also won four of his nine ground duels, drawing two fouls, and completed 50 per cent of his attempted dribbles during the game, while also completing one tackle and firing one shot.

Overall this season, those creative numbers have been the key for Luiz, with an average pass accuracy of 89 per cent rising to 98 per cent in his own half, with an average long-ball accuracy of 67 per cent.

This comes alongside 2.8 duels won, 3.0 recoveries, 1.3 key passes and, of course, his ten goals and ten assists across all competitions this season.

Luiz has been one of the most impressive players and standout performers in the Premier League this season, let alone at Aston Villa, and tying him down to a new contract could be a crucial point for Villa to keep progressing.
