Aston Villa in hunt to sign ‘Portuguese Jack Grealish’, NSWE already have links to his club

Aston Villa are said to be one of many Premier League sides interested in signing Jota Silva from sister club Vitoria de Guimaraes, according to the Daily Mirror.

The newspaper reported on Sunday (14 April, page 71) that the Villans are set to go head to head with Brighton, Wolves and Fulham the Portuguese midfielder.

Jota, 24, has been labelled as a “rising star” while being compared to former Villa star Jack Grealish “due to his looks and playing style.”

A report by Mark Lomas has suggested that £17 million would be enough for the Liga Portugal side to part with their talisman. With scouts in Portugal looking at him, it appears that a move to the Premier League is on the cards.

Should Aston Villa sign Jota Silva?

A deal with the Villans may be made easier by the partnership between the two clubs but V Sports, the Villa owners, were forced to withdraw a majority shareholding due to Uefa rules [INews].

Despite this being the case, the existing relationship between the two clubs could still prove pivotal in a potential transfer.

Unai Emery’s side have struggled for midfield creativity at times due to the injuries of Jacob Ramsey and Emi Buendia. Although the signings of Morgan Rogers and the form of Douglas Luiz have helped, some additional squad depth would certainly be useful.

Silva has already accrued 11 goals and five assists across 28 league matches, putting him eighth for goal involvement in the division [FotMob].

He has an excellent defensive work rate from out wide which could make him a useful asset under Emery’s wing. This season he has averaged 1.96 aerials won, 0.93 clearances and 0.69 interceptions per 90 [Fbref], showing off his work ethic.

He is also a versatile option which could prove useful, especially given the Villans’ struggles with injuries this campaign.

He can play on either wing while being comfortable as a striker in his time with Vitoria. Especially in games against better-equipped attacking sides, he could be a great option.

At a reported £17 million, he could prove to be a great piece of business in an ever more expensive transfer market.
