Ollie Watkins slammed by Aston Villa insider – ‘He’s part of the problem’
Bryan King has criticised Ollie Watkins for his comments after Aston Villa drew with Brentford in the Premier League.
The ex-Villa scout has questioned why Watkins even joined the Villans in the first place after the striker admitted that he feels as if his side lacks a “big-team mentality,” (via BBC Sport, 6 April).
Watkins criticised Villa after their 3-3 draw with Brentford (6 April), saying “We lacked that big-team mentality where they kill games off which is really disappointing.”
And King – speaking exclusively to Villa News – claims that he is not a fan of what the England international had to say.
“Why should Watkins’ comments be a concern to Unai Emery? Villa are sitting fifth in the Premier League and having a very positive season,” said King.
“If Watkins feels this way, why did he join them in the first place?
“It is alright to make these statements, but he’s part of the problem, he is also a Villa player. If they lack a big-team mentality, then he needs to help fix that.”
Aston Villa must respond after Ollie Watkins’ recent comments
A few of Watkins’ teammates probably weren’t best pleased with what Watkins had to say after their draw with the Bees.
Suggesting that his fellow Villa stars lack a big-team mentality is unlikely to have gone down well in the changing room, and Emery will have to ensure that his players prove their talisman wrong and demonstrate a response in the coming weeks.

After Watkins’ form this season, it is understandable that Villa supporters would be concerned about the potential of the 28-year-old leaving the club, and his most recent comments won’t have done much to ease those concerns.
