Aston Villa: Unai Emery to hand Omari Kellyman Premier League start after new injury update

Aston Villa are arguably facing their most important run of fixtures this season over the next month as they continue their push for Champion League football.

Unai Emery’s side have been impressive both domestically and in Europe this term and there is a genuine possibility that the Villans could lift some silverware as well as book their place in the top four of the Premier League.

Despite their drubbing at the hands of Manchester City and Phil Foden last time out, Villa will be confident they can get the job done. However, they will have to do it without Jacob Ramsey after a new update emerged over the midfielder.

Writing on X on Friday (5 April) The Athletic said: “Aston Villa midfielder Jacob Ramsey will be out for the remainder of the season with a foot injury.

“Ramsey has not featured since being forced off in the first half against Luton Town on March 2 due to an issue with his toe.”

Will Jacob Ramsey be fit to play again for Aston Villa this season?

While losing Ramsey for the remainder of the campaign will be a huge blow to Villa and Emery’s plans, it does open the door for somebody to take his place and a number of players will be chomping at the bit for their first-team opportunity.

It will most likely be one of Morgan Rogers or Moussa Diaby who start on the left wing, but young gem Omari Kellyman could be an outsider to make his full debut between now and the end of the Premier League season.

The 18-year-old came off the bench against Manchester City to make his Premier League debut on Wednesday (3 April) and impressed completing 75 per cent of his passes, one of which saw him find a teammate in the final third.

Emery has used Kellyman sparingly throughout the season, handing him cameos from the bench in both the Europa Conference League and the Carabao Cup, but his involvement could be set to step up in the coming weeks.

With Ramsey ruled out and fixtures coming thick and fast in the coming weeks, both domestically and in Europe, Emery will be forced to rotate his squad and the lack of attacking options will open the door for the teenager.

While it remains unlikely that Kellyman will be thrown straight in the deep end to start against Brentford on Saturday (6 April) it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him introduced from the bench once again.

Between now and the end of the season, Emery will almost certainly hand the 18-year-old a full Premier League debut.
