Aston Villa: Ollie Watkins one of the best as he breaks club record in draw v Brentford
Ollie Watkins has broken a club record for Aston Villa as he has now contributed to Premier League 27 goals across the course of this campaign.
It has been nothing short of a sensational campaign for the Villans as they climb up the league in search of Champions League football.
The upward trajectory of the club since Unai Emery came through the doors has been superb as he has improved the team no end.
This positivity does cause disappointment in some cases such as in the game against Brentford (6 April) in a 3-3 draw at Villa Park. With that being said, a club record was smashed on the day.
What Aston Villa record has Ollie Watkins broken?
When Watkins joined Villa in 2020 for £28 million [BBC] there were expectations but he has managed to smash them with ease.
Now it has been confirmed by the club via X that the striker has now broken a long-standing club record with 27 goal involvements.
According to FotMob, he has scored 16 in two seasons, 11 in another and now has 22 goals in all competitions across his four seasons in B6.
This season his performances have picked up to match his goal-scoring and just added to his overall game.
Even against Brentford, facing a low block and very few chances, he was able to score two goals from just 29 touches of the ball [FotMob].
He also registered a 100% conversion rate while winning 70% of his duels on the day which was better than more physical players like Diego Carlos who only registered 20%.
Villa are lucky to have a player who is so good and in such a rich vein of form as they head towards the run-in of the season.
In other Aston Villa news, a doctor has issued an “unfortunate” response as footage has emerged of Tyrone Mings with an update on his current situation.
