Aston Villa: George Hemmings edges closer to first team amid recent development

George Hemmings is now one step closer to making his Aston Villa debut with him putting pen to paper to his first senior deal.

The club announced, via their official website on Friday, 5 April, that the 17-year-old midfielder has signed a new contract despite joining the club a few months ago.

He moved to Villa Park in January from Nottingham Forest and has since excelled for the under-18s.

Aston Villa show faith in George Hemmings

The club showing faith so quickly in him to offer him a senior contract suggests that they see something in him and want to tie him down.

Villa fans who will have come across this development will certainly be thrilled and there’s a good chance that Hemmings is destined for big things in the future.

The teenager made his full debut against Arsenal on 6 January, the Villa under-18s unfortunately lost that one 3-2.

He has since featured for them against Tottenham, Fulham, Norwich, Chelsea, West Ham and West Brom.

He even found the back of the net against Norwich at the end of January, the same game he picked up a yellow card as well.

Unai Emery may look to call him up soon

Primarily a defensive midfielder, Hemmings has played slightly more advanced as well and if he continues to excel in that role, it might not be long before Unai Emery decides to call him up.

A lot of times, managers call up players to train with the senior team and then follow it up with a six-month loan before they’re ready to be on the matchday squad.

He has made six starts for the under-18s this season and has been named in the playing XI on 75 per cent of occasions by lead coach Gerard Nash.
