Lee Hedrie wowed by Jhon Duran as Aston Villa ace ruffles feathers with what he did v Man City
Former Aston Villa star Lee Hendrie was full of praise for Jhon Duran following his equaliser vs Manchester City.
The Colombian picked up the ball and looked to get forward and he did so to great effect to level the scores.
A quick one-two with fellow youngster Morgan Rogers saw Duran bare down on goal with just Stefan Ortega in his way.
His effort curled over the German shot-stopper and into the back of the net to bring the scores level on the night.
Reacting to the game on Sky Sports News (08:34pm, 3 April), ex-Villa man Hendrie shared his verdict on Villa’s no.24.
Comparing him to the injured Ollie Watkins, he said: “He’s never going to be exactly what Ollie Watkins is with what he offers but there’s one thing he will do he’ll ruffle a few feathers.
“He had an opportunity, it was ruled offside, it was a great pick out by Douglas Luiz and he just spins off the shoulder of the defence and then volleys it first time, he’s scored some really good goals.”
With some cracking strikes against Ajax and Crystal Palace this season, Duran is no stranger to an aesthetically pleasing goal. This was no different.
As the goal went in, Hendrie added: “He’s got the ball now on the edge of the box. They’ve caused some problems… It’s a chance, he’s scored! Duran just as im bigging him up… He still has a lot to do as Ortega narrows the angle but he hits it hard right in the far side netting.
“It’s a brilliant goal it really is… It’s a brilliant response from Aston Villa.”
What impact has Jhon Duran had for Aston Villa vs Man City?
After being thrown in for just his third start of the season he has looked positive despite a lack of possession for Villa.
The 20-year-old provided an outlet for the away side who had been bunkered in for much of the first half. His goal was the only true shining light in a quiet first half for the Villans.
There have been moments where he has gone down feigning injury despite appearing to be ok which will leave fans frustrated.
Where Watkins provides an almost endless work rate, there is concerns that Duran can sometimes be lazy and cause issues for his teammates.
It was clear from the opening 45 minutes that the game plan from Emery was to defend and catch the champions on the break.
Duran’s goal was perfectly created and finished which made it seem as if the plan was going well. Going in at half-time 2-1 down probably wasn’t a part of that.
