Jacob Ramsey could be Aston Villa ‘difference maker’ in Champions League push amid injury news

Jacob Ramsey could still be the “difference maker” for Aston Villa in their Champions League push this season, according to Dan Bardell.

BirminghamLive reported on its website on Thursday (28 March) that the 22-year-old has returned to training after missing the past four matches with a foot injury.

That means the English attacking midfielder could be back in the side for Villa’s game against Wolves on Saturday (30 March).

Bardell believes this season has been pretty much a write-off for Ramsey so far, but if Unai Emery’s side finish in the top four, he claims the academy product could be a big reason why they achieve that goal if he manages to stay fit over the coming weeks.

Speaking exclusively to Villa News, Bardell said: “They just need him to stay fit until the end of the season because, if he gets a rhythm going, he’s a difference maker and they’ve missed him all season.

“They have done well this season Villa, but had they had Jacob Ramsey fit all season, I have no doubt Villa would be higher in the league and would have accumulated more points than they’ve got.

“You can almost put him in the bracket of Buendia and Mings, I know he’s played games, but every time he’s played he’s got injured again. Villa haven’t had the real Ramsey all season. You add that to Buendia and Mings, and that’s three players that played almost every game last season.

“This season has been a bit of write-off for Ramsey, but if he can end it well, then he can help Villa achieve their goal. If Villa finish top four, he will have been a big reason for that if he stays fit.

“He’s very underrated the way he can carry the ball and keep it close to his feet. Villa could do with having him back because he would be a huge difference maker.”

Jacob Ramsey could provide Aston Villa with boost

It’s a tricky situation for Villa to manage after Ramsey has suffered heavily with injuries this season and it’s really stalled his progress.

The attacking midfielder was excellent for Emery in the final few months of the last campaign, but he just hasn’t been able to maintain his fitness this year.

The Villans boss will know he can provide his side with some extra quality in the attacking positions, but he could look to manage his minutes to get the most out of him at Villa Park.
