Aston Villa v Wolves: Unai Emery makes Lucas Digne decision
Unai Emery has made a mistake on Lucas Digne as he names his Aston Villa side to take on Wolves on 30 March.
The Spaniard has opted to leave Digne on the bench as he’s started Alex Moreno at left-back.
The Frenchman offers more of an attacking threat and given the opposition, it makes sense to play Digne instead.
Aston Villa must seal the three points
According to Fbref, Digne’s 1.87 aerial duels won per 90 minutes is better than 95 per cent of full-backs in Europe’s top five leagues.
He’s also averaging an impressive 2.4 touches in the opposition penalty area which shows just how impactful he is going forward.
Aerially too, his 1.87 duels won see him better than 88 per cent of other players which is incredible as he’s primarily known for his attacking prowess.
While he’s only got two league assists this season, that cannot discount what he brings to the table each time he receives the ball in the final third.
His 8.78 progressive passes received put him in the 97th percentile and he had to be starting here.
His fitness record has also been impressive bar a recent niggle but he’s overcome that.
Hopefully, this decision doesn’t cost Emery or Villa as they’ve got a very good chance of finishing in the top five this season.
