Aston Villa: Dan Bardell reacts as Fabrizio Romano reveals Matty Cash injury update v Wolves

Aston Villa appear to always be one injury away from a potential crisis after news has emerged on Matty Cash, according to Dan Bardell.

Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano tweeted on Wednesday (27 March) that the Poland international will miss up to three weeks after picking up a hamstring injury during the international break.

That means the 26-year-old right-back will miss the clash against Wolves on Saturday (30 March) and the first leg of the Europa Conference League quarter-final against Lille on 11 April.

Bardell doesn’t believe Cash would have started for Villa in the West Midlands derby anyway as he expects Ezri Konsa to continue at right-back and potentially Diego Carlos to come in at centre-back.

Speaking exclusively to Villa News, Bardell said: “I knew someone would get injured, it’s just the way the injuries are at the moment.

“I knew someone going away on international duty would get injured. It seems to be the case at the moment that they get one player back and then lose someone else.

“Diego Carlos is back in training and now they look set to lose Matty Cash against Wolves. You would expect Carlos might play and Konsa plays right-back.

“Ramsey is back as well, so I fully expect he’ll get injured or someone else because it just seems to be the way it’s going for Villa at the moment.

“It just feels like they are always one injury away from a crisis and then someone comes back, and they just about break even every time at the moment.

“There is something that happens every week at the moment whether it be a suspension or an injury and Villa lose someone.

“I don’t think Cash would have played anyway, I think he may well have lined up with Konsa at right-back this weekend.”

Matty Cash adds to Aston Villa injury woes

There is a good chance that Cash wouldn’t have started against Wolves, but it’s a blow for another first-team player to be missing time.

As Bardell points out, Villa have been plagued with injuries over the past few months, with several of their defensive players being struck down at different times.

Unai Emery will just be hoping to get the right-back back up to full fitness as quickly as possible as he is likely to be needed in the final few weeks of the campaign.
