Aston Villa fans must get behind Nicolo Zaniolo despite what he did after scoring in the draw against West Ham, according to Ty Bracey.

The Italian international has struggled to make much of an impact since signing on loan from Galatasaray last August, finding himself on the periphery of the starting lineup.

After the 24-year-old popped up with the equaliser in the 1-1 draw against the Hammers on 17 March, the attacking midfielder made a shushing gesture after scoring, seemingly in the direction of the visiting Villa supporters.

Bracey believes Zaniolo's goal could be "very important" for the Villans as it could be the difference between them finishing fourth or not in the Premier League this season.

Speaking exclusively to Villa News, Bracey said: “I’m always for players lacking a bit of confidence giving it some. It was a very important goal.

"That point might be the difference between fourth and fifth place, so you just don’t know how important that could be.

"I’m over the moon for him to get a goal. He was shushing his own fans, which says everything really.

"You just have to get behind the players no matter what when they’re in that shirt.

"You have to get behind and support them.”

It has been a frustrating loan spell for Zaniolo with Villa so far after there was hope that he could make a big impact this season.

But after getting on the scoresheet against West Ham, the attacking midfielder will be hoping it can be the turning point for him and he can contribute more heading into the final few weeks of the season.

Unai Emery knows he will have to utilise his squad as they continue to challenge for the top four and look to win the Europa Conference League, so there are likely to be more opportunities for him to impress.
