Aston Villa set sights on signing Bologna star Lewis Ferguson as transfer update emerges
Aston Villa are interested in Bologna’s star midfielder Lewis Ferguson but will face tough competition ahead of the summer transfer window, according to GiveMeSport.
The online source reported [19 March] that the Villans have been monitoring the 24-year-old Scot, with Newcastle United, Brentford, Fulham, and Everton all keeping tabs.
It is understood that the former Aberdeen star would only entertain a Premier League move if it were the correct decision for his career, remaining fully focused on achieving Champions League qualification with Bologna.
Could Aston Villa sign Lewis Ferguson during the summer transfer window?
With the current squad that Unai Emery is building at Villa Park, a move to the Premier League could be very enticing for a young talent such as Ferguson.
The young midfielder has been lighting up the Serie A this season, registering six goals and three assists in 28 league matches so far.
With 50 goals across 132 total appearances for Bologna and Aberdeen, it is no surprise that Ferguson is creating waves in the footballing world. But his impact is so much more than just his goal contributions.
Ferguson’s ability to drive his team up the field, as well as the contagious energy he supplies on the pitch, could remind some of the talent and performances that John McGinn brings to Emery’s team.
With Ollie Watkins, Leon Bailey and Moussa Diaby in the squad, Villa possess one of the most potent attacks in the Premier League, with only Erling Haaland boasting more goals than Watkins.

Playing alongside Douglas Luiz, Scotland counterpart McGinn, and Boubacar Kamara, once he returns from injury, Ferguson could join up with a very exciting group of players in the summer.
And the chance to work under Emery is not something that can be turned down easily, with the Spaniard already doing special things at Villa Park since arriving in October 2022.
In other Aston Villa news, Alan Hutton has named the player he expects to be Villa’s next captain after John McGinn
