Aston Villa: Doctor reacts to Tyrone Mings injury and training footage

Aston Villa defender Tyrone Mings has suffered significant muscle atrophy as he aims to return from an ACL injury, according to Dr Rajpal Brar.

On analysing his latest training footage, the injury expert does not see him returning before the end of the season.

He also believes that the entire picture is not clear and there could be other things barring just an ACL rupture and it may even be worse than first feared.

Mings took to Instagram to share an update on his training, which was then shared on Twitter.

Speaking about this situation, Dr Brar, a doctor in physical therapy and a sports scientist, told Villa News:

“This is unfortunate for Mings but among the potential realities following ACL injuries.

“As one can see, there is significant muscle atrophy as he continues his rehab en route to returning to full fitness.

“I think he’s likely out for the season, especially when you look at the side-to-side differences.

“We also don’t know the full extent of Mings’ injury if it was just an ACL or were other things involved.”

Mings, who looked on course to be in the England squad for EURO 2024, had his hopes crashed on the opening day of the season.

He suffered the knee injury against Newcastle back in August, making it nigh on impossible for him to return before the end of the season.

The centre-back had to be taken off on a stretcher and will be eyeing a good pre-season run in before he’s ready to feature for the first team at the start of the 2045/25 campaign.
