Aston Villa former employee speculates player exits as ‘worried’ financial fair play claim made

Aston Villa will be busy in terms of both incomings and exits in the upcoming summer transfer window.

That is according to former Villa Park scout Bryan King, who believes Premier League clubs will be worried about breaching financial rules this summer.

Villa, who have been linked with a move for Atletico Madrid defender Mario Hermoso, recently reported a loss of £119.6million in their latest accounts up to 31 May 2023.

The huge loss, which they are adamant is within the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules, could still result in a star player exit.

Speaking to Villa News, King said: “I’m sure there will be some players who will move on in the summer. I think Emery has already said that there are going to be changes and new players brought in.

“If he’s going to improve the squad, he’s obviously got to bring in one or two star names, but if you’re bringing good players like Hermoso on a free, you can’t really be infringing on the fair play, if you’re not paying a big fee for him.

“I think everybody is going to be a little bit worried about what they spend and how they do their business.

“But are the Premier League going to charge Everton again, or are they going to charge Manchester City, Chelsea? What about Tottenham? I would imagine there are a few clubs wondering exactly what’s going to happen here.”

Will Aston Villa be busy in the summer transfer window?

There are undoubtedly players at Villa Park that Unai Emery does not need going forward, and they are certain to leave this summer.

The manager has built a talented squad in the Midlands, although if they are to be successful on all fronts, more arrivals will be needed.
