Aston Villa: ‘Clever’ Ollie Watkins can outshine Son Heung-min v Tottenham at Villa Park

Aston Villa will be keen to get back to winning ways, having played out a goalless draw with Ajax in Europe.

Unai Emery’s outfit will be fatigued after their trip to Amsterdam on Thursday (7 March) for their Europa Conference League round of 16 first leg clash.

But there is no time to hang around, with the Midlands club hosting North London outfit Tottenham Hotspur in Premier League action on Sunday (10 March).

It is a huge match for both clubs, with the home side currently sitting fourth in the league table, five points ahead of Tottenham in fifth, although the latter do have a game in hand.

An exciting, end-to-end match should be in store at Villa Park, with Ollie Watkins and Son Heung-min certain to be heavily involved, boasting 29 goals and 16 assists between them so far this season [official Premier League website, 8 March].

The latter really could be the difference maker, with the South Korea star having scored five goals in three appearances at Villa Park, finding the back of the net at a rate of one goal every 52 minutes [official Premier League website, 8 March].

But star striker Watkins also has the potential to decide Sunday’s match, with the England ace ahead of the Tottenham star in terms of goals, assists, shots on target and aerial duels won.

The Villa man boasts figures of 16, 10, 39 and 34 respectively, compared to 13, six, 27 and three respectively, with pundit Adrian Clarke labelling both players “extremely quick and clever,” [official Premier League website, 8 March].

Given Son’s recent international exploits, he has played fewer games than Watkins, but the latter’s off-the-ball efforts also mean he can outshine his opposite number at Villa Park.

As per the official Premier League website (8 March), no player has made more off-the-ball runs than the Aston Villa ace, who has been targeted 117 times from his 271 runs into the opposition box this season, while his 934 runs place him well ahead of second-place Bournemouth star Dominic Solanke.

In other Aston Villa news, one player is now unsellable after a recent 97% display that left Manchester City star Jack Grealish wowed.
