Aston Villa: Journalist shares whether Unai Emery could leave Villa Park for Bayern Munich job

Unai Emery is unlikely to walk away from Aston Villa to take the Bayern Munich job at the end of the season, according to Dan Bardell.

The German sports magazine kicker reported on 21 February (via Ronan Murphy) that the Villa boss is one of the names being considered by the Bundesliga giants to replace Thomas Tuchel when he leaves the club this summer.

But Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano reported in his Daily Briefing on 24 February that the Spaniard is 100 per cent focused on his job at Villa Park despite being linked with a move to Germany.

Bardell believes the Villans boss could potentially move on in a couple of years if an elite side came in for him, but he sees no reason why he would jump ship at the moment after the progress he’s made at the club.

Speaking exclusively to Villa News, Bardell said: “I still think Unai Emery is committed to the project he’s got at Villa.

“I don’t think he’d leave after one-and-a-half seasons. He doesn’t strike me as the type of manager who would just walk away from something because of another job offer.

“Since he came in, I think he’s been given everything he wants at Villa, he’s got all the people around him that he wants. They will obviously have plans for the summer in motion and he’ll be a big part of that.

“He’ll know what the budget is going to be, how the land lies and whether Villa are going to have to sell someone or not.

“At the moment, Villa are on course to finish in the Champions League places. If that happens, Emery is not going to walk away for anyone, he’s going to want to see that through.

“Bayern haven’t been run well in the last couple of years, I know they have made a lot of changes behind the scenes. I don’t see that he would leave Villa for them.

“I don’t see there being a club he’d leave Villa for at the moment. That could possibility change in a couple of years if an elite club came in for him, but at the moment, I think he’s fully committed to the cause at Villa.

“I don’t see any reason why he’d walk away and take another job at the moment, even if it is a massive job.”

Unai Emery unlikely to be tempted away from Aston Villa

It will certainly be flattering for Emery to hear that a club the size of Bayern are interested in making him their next manager, but he has something good going at Villa at the moment.

As Bardell points out, the Spaniard has been allowed to bring in the people he wants and they are currently on course to finish in the Champions League places this season.

After all his hard work over the past 18 months or so in helping them get into this position, it would surely have to be an offer he simply can’t turn down to persuade him to leave Villa Park any time soon.
