Aston Villa: King shares silverware verdict ahead of Conference League return v Ajax
Aston Villa have a chance of lifting the Europa Conference League, according to former Villa Park scout Bryan King.
The Midlands club will take on Ajax in the round of 16 of the competition, with the first leg taking place in Amsterdam on Thursday (7 March).
Villa Park then hosts the second leg later this month, with Unai Emery’s men reaching the last 16 after finishing top of their group.
Speaking to Villa News, King said: “They’ve only got a few more Premier League games, and there aren’t many more rounds of the Conference League.
“You’ve got a good chance to get your best players back, because whether we like it or not, there is a standard between the top six and the bottom 11.
“The top six can change their teams around, we saw that in the Carabao Cup final, so many young players playing for Liverpool against a very, very expensive Chelsea team. If you don’t want to compete at the top, then don’t produce a team that is capable of playing at the top.
“Supporters want to see good matches, silverware. Villa have a chance to win silverware in the Conference League. It’s nice to see Aston Villa in contention again, be it for the Premier League or the Conference League.”
Can Unai Emery guide Aston Villa to Europa Conference League glory?
Villa have been very unlucky with injuries lately, with many star players spending a lot of time on the sidelines with various issues.
Despite those problems, talented manager Emery has guided his team to a very strong season so far, both domestically and in Europe.

They currently sit fourth in the Premier League table, but all attention now turns to their massive showdown with European giants Ajax.
