Aston Villa: ‘Huge’ losses examined after UEFA publish new report on Villa Park
Dan Plumley has insisted that Aston Villa posting a loss of £119.6million is a “huge number” that will raise many eyebrows in the Premier League.
UEFA have shared that the losses are among the highest in Europe for this accounting period, but other things need to be taken into account.
The football finance expert admitted that Villa can infrastructure investments and COVID losses can be deducted against PSR deductions following the loss.
“It is a big loss,” he exclusively told Villa News.
“You can see in the UEFA report where they’re benchmarking against other clubs and that’s why it’s one of the highest in and around Europe.
“I think if you roll that back and look at the investment in some of the player signings over the past year or so during that period and some of the other things that Villa have invested in, the stadium and infrastructure costs will be able to be deducted from PSR deductions.
“There will be other spend that is also taken into account, but it’s symptomatic of the club on an investment drive moving forward and we know that they have been very bullish about that and saying that they are complying with regulations.
“It is a huge number and it will, of course, raise eyebrows against Premier League PSR regulations and then of course what happens with the club in the summer and whether or not they end up in the Champions League as well.”
