Aston Villa: Ollie Watkins shines yet again v Luton, Jamie O’Hara wowed
Ollie Watkins turned in yet another excellent display for Aston Villa in the 3-2 victory against Luton at Kenilworth Road on 2 March, leaving Jamie O’Hara stunned.
Two first-half goals from the striker had Villa in control going into half-time, before a second-half fightback from Luton dragged them back into contention, only for Lucas Digne to win it in the 90th minute.
Watkins was especially impressive in his display, not only with the goals but his all-round display which once again showed how crucial he is to Unai Emery’s team.
O’Hara was speaking live on talkSPORT in reaction to the second Villa goal [2 March, 18:11], as he commented: “Massive result. He is on fire.”
Ollie Watkins shines as Aston Villa beat Luton 3-2
Watkins’ two goals today means he has scored five in his last three Premier League appearances, setting a phenomenal goalscoring pace and firing Villa closer to Champions League football with each win he helps them earn.
His brace at Kenilworth Road came from a total of four shots on target, with one missing the target and one hitting the woodwork, and it could have been even more for the Englishman. [Sofascore]
As Luton ramped up the pressure in the second half, his role changed. Instead of getting onto the end of passes and looking to threaten in behind, Watkins dropped deeper, ultimately getting involved with 16 duels – of which he won six.
He was also able to draw three fouls to ease the pressure on his team and help them move further up the pitch, while one tackle and one clearance displayed his willingness to help out in defence.

It was much more of a well-rounded display than his first-half goalscoring exploits would have suggested – with O’Hara even assuming the game was wrapped up – but he dug deep, got involved, and ultimately won his team all three points with a little help from Digne.
