Aston Villa: Ty Bracey reacts as Leander Dendoncker aims ‘prestigious’ dig at Villa Park club
Napoli are not a more prestigious club than Aston Villa despite what Leander Dendoncker said, according to Ty Bracey.
Speaking to online news outlet Pickx Sports (via Voetbalnieuws) on 21 February, the Belgian international claimed the Italian side are a “slightly more prestigious club” than Villa after joining them on loan in the January transfer window.
The 28-year-old midfielder highlighted how his new side were crowned the Serie A champions last season and have competed well in Europe throughout the past few campaigns.
While Bracey admits that the Naples-based club have won “a lot more” than the Villans in recent years, he doesn’t believe it’s a fair comparison because the Premier League is a higher standard of football than Serie A.
Speaking exclusively to Villa News, Bracey said: “They have won a lot more than Villa in recent times. They won the Super Cup in 2015, Italian Cup in 2020, champions last year.
“Prestigious maybe not, but they’ve won the Champions League the same amount of times as us.
“But I would argue that we’re playing at a higher standard of football personally.

“Prestigious maybe not so much, but we’re playing in two different types of football. Yes, they’ve won the league, but the Premier League and Serie A are two different kettles of fish.
“Would they win the league going up against Man City? Absolutely not.
“I don’t think it could be a fair comparison really.”
Leander Dendoncker unwise with Aston Villa and Napoli comments
It probably wasn’t the best move for Dendoncker to put down the club who he is actually still employed by after making his loan move to Napoli.
As Bracey points out, the Serie A side have won more than Villa in recent times, but there is no doubt that the Premier League is a higher standard of football.
Although a return to Villa Park is unlikely for the midfielder in the summer, it’s often best to not put your club down when you’re out on loan as you never know what the future could hold for him.
