Ivan Toney would be ‘great signing’ for Aston Villa after what Stan Collymore said

Ivan Toney would be a “great signing” for Aston Villa after what Stan Collymore said about the Brentford forward, according to Ty Bracey.

Speaking to Caught Offside on 9 February, the pundit urged Villa to “join the party” to sign the England international after he’s scored four goals in seven Premier League matches since returning from his eight-month ban for breaching the FA’s betting rules.

Although he admitted that the 27-year-old would perhaps favour staying in London, he claimed he would drive him to the West Midlands himself as the Villans need a new forward to back up Ollie Watkins.

Bracey believes Toney would be unlikely to make the move to Villa Park due to him wanting to be the first-choice striker, but he would welcome the deal if it turned out to be a possibility.

Speaking exclusively to Villa News, Bracey said: “I would love to see him at Villa. I think he would be a great signing.

“I don’t think he’ll end up at Villa, but I definitely wouldn’t turn my nose up at him. He’s a goalscorer, we know he’s capable of doing it.

“I’d like to see someone like that at the club, but I think he’d be a great signing if that opportunity was presented to us.

Stan Collymore often speaks highly of Aston Villa

“Competition is healthy for every position in the club and I don’t know if we’d play two strikers, but he definitely wouldn’t come in as a backup or in a rotation.

“He’s someone who wants to play first-team football, especially after being out for so long. I probably wouldn’t see that deal happening.”

Could Ivan Toney sign for Aston Villa?

There are a few question marks surrounding the possibility of Toney joining Villa as Bracey points out that he would want to be the first-choice striker.

That would be extremely unlikely unless Watkins were to leave Villa Park and there is also the small matter of the fee Brentford would be looking for after they placed a £100million asking price on his head.

There is no doubt that the forward would add quality to Unai Emery’s already impressive squad, but this is one deal that could prove difficult to get over the line when the summer transfer window opens.
