Tottenham now lead race to seal Jaden Philogene transfer as Aston Villa clause emerges

Tottenham are now leading the race to sign Hull City winger Jaden Philogene, despite the £15million buy-back clause inserted into his deal by Aston Villa, according to TEAMtalk.

The online football news outlet reported on 26 February that Ange Postecoglou’s side have made regular checks on the progress of the winger who has picked up eight goals and six assists this season.

Aston Villa, meanwhile, would have to match any offer received by a rival club if they wanted to re-sign Philogene, with the buy-back clause only in play if Hull are promoted.

Could Aston Villa or Tottenham sign Jaden Philogene?

Interest in the mercurial winger has been high given the standard of his performances so far this season, and with Hull now making a push for the Championship playoffs, that attention is likely to remain.

Alan Hutton has previously hit out at the decision to sell Philogene to Hull given his performances in the Championship so far this season, insisting it was a strange deal for Unai Emery to agree to at Villa Park.

Speculation surrounding the future of the Hull star has ramped up in recent weeks after he scored what has been labelled a “magic” goal which went viral on social media in the club’s 2-1 victory against Rotherham on 13 February.

It appears Villa still hold the cards in terms of their position on Philogene’s future, but any deal would involve the club agreeing on a deal with the player which is not guaranteed – especially if Tottenham come calling with a better offer.
