Ex-Aston Villa Scout predicts Ivan Toney destination as ‘strange’ Villa Park verdict shared

Aston Villa will not be able to compete for the signature of Brentford star Ivan Toney, according to former Villa Park scout Bryan King.

According to the Mirror (14 February), the striker is edging closer to a Bees exit, with Thomas Frank admitting that he is likely to lose Toney.

And former Villa striker Stan Collymore believes his old club should throw their hat in the ring for his signature [CaughtOffside, 9 February].

But King does not believe Villa Park will be his next destination, with the likes of Arsenal, Manchester United or Tottenham more probable.

Speaking to Villa News, King said: “He won’t go to Villa. It would be strange to think that Villa could compete in that ballpark, because if he’s going to leave Brentford, I think he’s definitely going to be looking at an Arsenal or even a Manchester United or a Tottenham, I think that’s the kind of club he’s looking for.

“I’m not sure whether Aston Villa would suit him, or he would suit Villa. He’s obviously a Brentford player at the moment, but the way he’s come back in and the way he’s playing, he is causing interest.

“It will be interesting to see whether he gets picked for England. He scores goals, he’s certainly good enough. He excites you when you watch him play, his movement is good and he can finish. He’s certainly in the Rashford category.

“He had the unfortunate business of what he had with the betting, but that seems to have been put behind him. Brentford have given him wonderful support.

“He’s a player who is going to be mentioned a lot towards the end of the season, especially after the way Thomas Frank has expressed it, that he feels that he could be losing him in the summer.”

Could Aston Villa benefit from having Ivan Toney at Villa Park?

Aston Villa are looking stable once more after their recent shake, with star striker Ollie Watkins key to their recent success on the pitch.

Ollie Watkins has been linked with a move away from Aston Villa.

But perhaps the England ace could do with some help in the final third at Villa Park, although it is unlikely that Toney will be the player to provide such help.
