Calum Chambers blasted as ‘League One player’ after failed Aston Villa and West Brom transfer

Aston Villa would be “quite willing” to consider a loan or loan with an option to buy exit for defender Calum Chambers.

That is according to former Villa Park scout Bryan King, with the centre-back having been “fortunate” to have lined out for Arsenal before his move to the Midlands.

According to talkSPORT (1 February), he was set to join West Brom in the winter transfer window, but the player has remained at the Premier League club.

Speaking to Villa News, King said: “I’ve never been a lover of Chambers anyway, I thought he was fortunate to be playing at Arsenal.

“He was never one that stood out for me, I thought he was rather fortunate to have had the career he has had.

“But I would think that if anybody goes after him for a loan, or a loan with an option to buy, I would think Villa would be quite willing to look at that.

“He doesn’t look as though he is going to be part of Emery’s future at the club. I always thought he was a Championship/League One player anyway. That’s his sort of level I would think, middle Championship or League One.

“And I would think there would be clubs at that level who would be interested in him. I can’t see Tottenham, Arsenal, Liverpool or Manchester City going in for him, that’s for sure.”

Aston Villa exit on the cards for Chambers

It is very surprising that Chambers did not exit Villa Park in January, especially after Unai Emery openly said that the defender can leave.

He has been exiled in the Midlands this season, and is certain to leave in the summer, with no future for the centre-back at Villa Park.

His final destination does, however, remain unknown, but it does seem likely that he is counting down the days until he can leave the club.

Emery has instead opted to rely upon the likes of Diego Carlos, Ezri Konsa, loanee Clement Lenglet and summer signing Pau Torres in central defence.
