Aston Villa: Ty Bracey gutted as injury news emerges on Diego Carlos at Villa Park

Diego Carlos will be a “huge loss” for Aston Villa after he’s been struck down through injury, according to Ty Bracey.

The Athletic reported on 14 February that the 30-year-old had suffered a hamstring issue in training and that he was due to undergo tests to assess the severity of the problem.

Unai Emery then provided an update on the Brazilian centre-back on 16 February, where he confirmed that he will be sidelined for between three and four weeks [BBC Sport].

Although Bracey would rather have Carlos available, he doesn’t see too much of a problem with playing two left-footed defenders together in Pau Torres and Clement Lenglet.

Speaking exclusively to Villa News, Bracey said: “It’s just another blow with another defender going down injured, but Pau Torres is back and Lenglet is available.

“People have said things about playing two left-footed defenders, but it’s very common for there to be two right-footed defenders at centre-back.

“Obviously, I would prefer Diego Carlos there over Lenglet, but it is what it is. It seems like it’s one in, one out with Diego getting injured and Pau coming back.

“But it’s a huge loss to the depth of the club in our defensive options.”

Aston Villa have tricky task of managing defensive crisis

It’s going to be a tricky task for Unai Emery to manage his defensive injury crisis over the next few weeks as Carlos’ issue adds to the problem picked up by Ezri Konsa.

Villa were already missing Tyrone Mings and now they are down to just Torres and Lenglet as they look to challenge for a Champions League place this season.

But the Villans boss will be confident he still has enough quality at his disposal to continue picking up results as they look to ensure this is a successful campaign at Villa Park.
