Aston Villa: ‘Massive’ Boubacar Kamara verdict drops as injury news emerges at Villa Park

Boubacar Kamara is a “massive loss” for Aston Villa after injury news has emerged on the midfielder, according to Ty Bracey.

The Frenchman was substituted after 65 minutes at Villa Park on 11 February as Unai Emery’s side lost 2-1 to Manchester United, having gone to ground after twisting his knee while trying to win back possession midway through the second half.

Villa have since confirmed that the 24-year-old has suffered a knee ligament injury, which will see him miss the remainder of the campaign as the Villans push for a place in the top four this season.

Bracey believes Kamara’s injury is an opportunity for midfielder Tim Iroegbunam to show what he can do as he’s now likely to receive more minutes at Villa Park.

Speaking exclusively to Villa News, Bracey said: “It’s a massive loss. He’s a very important part of the spine of the Villa starting lineup.

“He will be a massive loss for the rest of the season, but we have players who can play there.

“Unai Emery speaks highly of Tim Iroegbunam and John McGinn can most definitely play there in a pivot with Douglas Luiz.

Tim Iroegbunam will be looking to take his opportunity at Aston Villa.

“As much as they aren’t Kamara, we do have some cover there, so there’s not too much to grumble about.

“If there is a time to shine for Iroegbunam, it’s most definitely now for him.

“Villa are in a good position and, hopefully, he can keep us up there. These opportunities don’t come around too often, especially for the younger players, so I really hope it works out for him.”

Aston Villa hit hard by injuries

It’s been an extremely difficult past few weeks for Villa on the injury front after they have suffered blows to a number of key players.

Kamara has been superb during this campaign and has played a crucial role in midfield alongside Douglas Luiz in helping his side challenge for a Champions League spot.

As Bracey points out, the Frenchman will be a loss, but there are other players in the Villans squad who can come in to try and fill the void at Villa Park.
