Aston Villa star Douglas Luiz sends two-word message to Aston Villa Women ace Alisha Lehmann

Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz has sent a two-word social media message to Aston Villa Women ace Alisha Lehmann.

It comes after the latter shared images of her week, which included an FA Women’s Continental Tyres League Cup win against Brighton.

The Midlands club won the quarter-final clash on Wednesday (7 February) 2-0 on penalties, with the match having finished 1-1 after 120 minutes.

Sharing the images on social media, Lehmann posted on Instagram: “Drop of the week,” with Luiz sharing the images on his Instagram story, as well as commenting: “My love.”

Aston Villa Women progress in the cup

Villa Women, who are currently without the suspended Rachel Daly, certainly haven’t been at their best this season, with Carla Ward’s side sitting eighth in the Women’s Super League table.

But the meeting with Brighton provided a well-needed break from league action, and a chance to progress into the semi-finals of the League Cup.

They made hard work of it, but a last four place was secured after a dramatic penalty shoot-out, in which goalkeeper Daphne van Domselaar was the hero.

The Aston Villa Women’s star made three saves from the spot, with Adriana Leon and Anna Patten scoring their spot-kicks.

Kirsty Hanson was the hero from open play with her second-half goal, having cancelled out Veatriki Sarri’s first-half opener for Brighton.

Lehmann certainly played her part as a 69th-minute substitution, with a semi-final clash against either Arsenal or London City Lionesses up next in the competition. But it is league action up first, with Lehmann and her teammates travelling to Tottenham on Sunday (18 February).
