Aston Villa: Calum Chambers certain to leave Villa Park this summer amid ‘strange’ development

Calum Chambers is definitely going to leave Aston Villa in the summer transfer window after a move failed to materialise in January, according to Dan Bardell.

Football Insider reported on 1 February that the 29-year-old had rejected three offers from Championship clubs for him to make a last-gasp exit from Villa Park before the window slammed shut.

The English right-back has since been omitted from Villa’s squad for the Europa Conference League, with Unai Emery clearly not seeing him as part of his plans.

Bardell believes the Spanish manager doesn’t seem to trust Chambers anymore after he failed to impress in the first game of the Europa Conference League group stages, where the Villans lost 3-2 to Legia Warsaw.

Speaking exclusively to Villa News, Bardell said: “I think he’s probably just waiting until the end of the season to see if there are any better options for him to move to. It sounded like he was open to a Championship move, but nothing materialised and he chose to stay.

He’s maybe thought he’s got a chance of being part of a team going for the top four and might end up winning a trophy in the Europa Conference League.

But then he’s ended up being omitted from the squad, so he won’t play any more in the Europa Conference League this season, which is a bit strange. Villa have had to move him out to be able to register other players like Morgan Rogers that have arrived.

Unai Emery has made some big decisions at Aston Villa

He will go at the end of the season Chambers. It’s been a move that ended up being okay, he came on a free, Villa haven’t lost anything by having him on their books for the last two years.

“He’s not played this season, he played in that first European game and Emery just never seemed to trust him from that moment and it’s been a long way back for him.

“I don’t think we’ll see him unless there’s an emergency, but he’ll definitely be going at the end of the season, 100 per cent.”

Time is surely up for Calum Chambers at Aston Villa

There doesn’t appear to be a future for Chambers anymore at Aston Villa despite the defender deciding to remain with the club in January.

The Englishman has featured just three times this season after he’s fallen down the pecking order following the arrival of Emery, who has made it clear he isn’t part of his plans moving forward.

The fact he rejected moves to Championship clubs shows that he fancies himself to continue playing at a higher level and he’ll be hoping some interest from Premier League clubs comes his way in the summer.
