Unai Emery and Monchi would quit Aston Villa together if scenario plays out – Ex-employee

Aston Villa President of Football Operations Monchi will leave the club if manager Unai Emery leaves, according to former Villa scout Bryan King.

As per the official Aston Villa website (16 June 2023), Monchi was appointed to the role last summer, joining from Sevilla, where he was Director of Football.

King believes the chief and Emery have brought real quality to the Midlands, transforming Villa into a top six Premier League club.

Speaking to Villa News, King said: “They look as they are certainly a top six team, that’s for sure. They didn’t look like that before Monchi and Emery came.

“They’ve added quality there; Emery’s coaching and work with the team, and Monchi with his work regarding recruitment. Although there hasn’t been a great amount of recruitment because of the money. Most of the players were there.

“Let’s put it like this, as long as Emery’s there, Monchi’s there. If Emery goes, he’ll go as well. It’s going to be interesting now to see them compete for that top four place, which has been spoken about all season. Also how far they are going to go in Europe.”

Aston Villa going strong

Villa are flying high under Emery, and remain in the Premier League title fight alongside Liverpool, Manchester City and Arsenal.

They are also into the knockout stages of the Europa Conference League, having topped their group with four wins, one draw and one loss.

A disappointing exit from the FA Cup fourth round was, however, suffered at the hands of Chelsea on Wednesday (7 February), with Villa now aiming to bounce back against Manchester United in the league on Sunday (11 February).
