Aston Villa will miss 100% Ezri Konsa amid fears over ‘significant’ injury blow

Aston Villa are set to miss Ezri Konsa after the defender was ruled out with a “significant” knee injury which could keep him out for over a month, according to the Telegraph.

The newspaper shared via their website on 6 February that Villa are currently sweating over his fitness after the blow against Sheffield United, with further tests and assessments due to take place.

Konsa’s injury has been described as a “huge blow” to Villa’s Champions League hopes, although there is still some hope that the club’s worst fears will not come true after the scans.

The defender has made this right-back spot his own in recent weeks despite his usual preference for playing in the middle and has helped Unai Emery’s side to keep three clean sheets in their last four games with him in the new role.

He was taken off after the injury blow against Sheffield United, but a 98 per cent passing accuracy, 100 per cent ground duel success rate, and 100 per cent dribble success rate in just 59 minutes of football saw him dominate the right-hand side, picking up an 8/10 score from our player ratings. Despite a disappointing 3-1 defeat to Newcastle, Konsa still managed to stand out at right-back, recording a 93 per cent passing accuracy, 100 per cent dribble success rate and even picking up a key pass.

He was moved back into centre-back to face Chelsea in the cup, where Villa picked up yet another clean sheet, but starting at right-back at Goodison Park saw him tested defensively, making one clearance, one interception, and two blocks, drawing three fouls and once again coming away with that clean sheet intact.

Without his presence at the back, whether it be in his new right-back role or starting in the middle as he did against Chelsea, this injury blow will certainly be a knock to Villa’s confidence and form.
