Unai Emery may have contacted Villarreal as Aston Villa player exit confirmed

We’re delighted to welcome Aston Villa podcaster Ty Bracey as our exclusive Aston Villa columnist each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the club…

Unai Emery may have put a word in with Villarreal about Bertrand Traore after his Aston Villa exit has been confirmed, according to Ty Bracey.

Villa announced on their website on Thursday (1 February) that the Burkina Faso international had terminated his contract at Villa Park.

The 28-year-old winger then signed for the La Liga club on a free transfer, with his deal running until the end of the season in Spain.

Bracey believes the Villans were right to allow Traore to leave the club as he looks to go away and earn more regular first-team football.

Speaking exclusively to Villa News, Bracey said: “Emery will have obviously told him that he wasn’t part of his plans and to go and find first-team football.

“It’s maybe a coincidence that he’s gone to Villarreal. But you never know, we may have put a word in, Emery may have put a word in, you just don’t know.

“But if he wants to go and play first-team football, then who are we to stop him?

“So fair play to him for wanting first-team minutes and terminating his contract just to get some football in. I wish him the best of luck.”

Bertrand Traore wasn’t going to play at Aston Villa

The move for Traore wasn’t met with too much surprise after Emery had revealed earlier in the January transfer window that he was free to leave the club alongside Calum Chambers.

The winger, who signed for Villa for £17million from Lyon in 2020, had made just six appearances this season at Villa Park before his departure.

He will be hoping the switch to Villarreal will help him get his career back on track after appearing lately for Burkina Faso at the Africa Cup of Nations.
