Aston Villa owners view as Unai Emery exit to Liverpool mooted after Jurgen Klopp news

Aston Villa supporters shouldn’t be worried about Unai Emery leaving Villa Park to take over as Liverpool manager at the end of the season, according to Alan Hutton.

Jurgen Klopp has announced that he will be leaving Anfield at the end of the season after over eight years on Merseyside in a tenure that has seen him lift the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, League Cup and other honours.

Naturally, talk has already begun over who could take up the German’s space in the Liverpool dugout, with Emery’s name suggested in some circles following Villa’s excellent start to the Premier League campaign under the Spaniard’s management.

While Hutton acknowledges the calibre and history of Anfield would be hard to turn down, he has admitted he would be surprised to see Emery leave given the backing he has received from the club’s owners and the project he has begun at Villa Park.

“No, no, no. I don’t think so,” Hutton told Villa News.

“Emery has done an outstanding job at Aston Villa, he’s been backed by the owners, there’s trust in him and they’re buying into what he wants and they’re on the up.

“I understand Liverpool are a massive team and a massive club with huge support and the history behind it. But I would be very surprised if he was to leave Aston Villa.”

Liverpool offer would not tempt Emery out of Aston Villa

It is only natural that Emery’s name would be linked with one of the biggest job openings in world football, given how Aston Villa have started the season. The Spaniard’s side sit just outside the Champions League places and only three points adrift of Arsenal.

Villa have only lost five of their 22 Premier League games this season and have booked their place in the Europa League knockout stages, with an excellent and distinctive style of play, so Emery is more than deserving of a bit more recognition.

The other managers who currently occupy the top four places are unlikely to be tempted away from their current projects, with Ange Postecoglou starting something in North London, while Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal and Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City are Liverpool’s biggest threats.

It seems unlikely that any of the Premier League’s big-name managers will take over the mantle from Klopp at the end of the season and that includes Emery, especially having invested so heavily in young talent in January.
