Medical done: Contracts ready for Aston Villa signing for Morgan Rogers on Deadline Day
Morgan Rogers has completed his medical in order to complete his deadline-day transfer to Aston Villa, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The Italian transfer guru shared on Wednesday evening (31 January) that the Middlesbrough forward has completed his tests at Villa Park with contracts now being prepared ahead of an official announcement.
It is understood the deal agreed is for an initial £8m fee, which could eventually be worth £16m if all add-ons are met (Sky Sports).
Romano posted: “Morgan Rogers medical done at Aston Villa and contracts being prepared to sign tonight.”
Sensational deal
This is a sensational coup for Unai Emery and the Villans as they forcibly reinvent and strengthen their attacking weaponry with a stunning swoop for one of the Championship’s best forwards.
Villa have been keen on bringing the 21-year-old to the Premier League throughout the winter transfer window and now appear to have won the race for his signature.
Rogers has featured 26 times for Middlesbrough in the Championship this season, scoring two goals and registering six assists and has been a shining light for Michael Carrick’s attack.
Rogers brings much-needed pace, attacking flexibility, invention and imagination to Emery’s weaponry which has often looked stale at times despite their tremendous efforts so far this campaign.
Rogers was also the highest-scorer in this season’s EFL Cup with five goals in six games so he certainly knows where the goal is, capable of playing as a winger or as a striker.
For Rogers personally, a move to Villa will see him return to the West Midlands having come up through the West Brom academy.
As soon as this transfer was rumoured earlier in the window, it became clear the forward was keen on the deal, and he will be excited to finally complete the move.
