Immediate loan exit on cards as Aston Villa close in on Joe Gauci transfer – Sky Sports journalist
We’re delighted to welcome Sky Sports journalist Dan Bardell as our exclusive Aston Villa columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at the club…
Aston Villa could immediately look to loan out keeper Joe Gauci if he completes his last-gasp move to Villa Park, according to Dan Bardell.
The Athletic journalist David Ornstein tweeted on Wednesday (31 January) that Villa have agreed a deal with Adelaide United to sign the Australian international.
He said the 23-year-old has completed his medical and is set to join the club on a long-term deal until 2028, with the Villans currently just sorting out the paperwork to finalise the deal before the window closes on Thursday (1 February).
Bardell believes it’s difficult to work out where Gauci could fit into Unai Emery’s plans, suggesting that he may come in as the third choice behind Emiliano Martinez and Robin Olsen.
Speaking exclusively to Villa News, Bardell said: “David Ornstein tweeted that the fee was agreed and the contract was four-and-a-half years, and that was all agreed as well.
“But that hasn’t been announced and it’s difficult to dissect where he’s going to be in the pecking order.
“I assume third choice, but then again, it wouldn’t surprise me if Villa got him in and sent him out on loan to the Championship as well.
“It’ll be interesting to see what happens with him because it’s gone a little bit quiet.”
